This is the good news of today’s passage and indeed the good news of the entirety of the season of Lent: Jesus isn’t sitting safely on the sidelines while we’re “out there” getting our butts kicked; Jesus is right here in the arena with us.
If the stones could shout out, as Jesus suggests they are capable of, they would likely tell the story of two kings who entered Jerusalem from separate entrances.
Martha, of course, was busy doing the dishes. Lazarus was silent, perhaps still standing in amazement of the fact that only a few days ago he was deader than a doornail. Mary, however, did something quite different.
We mustn't stay on the mountain. The valleys are plentiful and THAT'S where Jesus calls us.
